  1. Well today was an interesting one.A record breaking(for me and Mick) 34 adders of which twelve were adults.But most fantastically of all we got to witness a female giving birth to at least five young that we counted.
   I did manage to get some pictures but obviously we didnt want to disturb her.Seems very late for an adder to be giving birth especially as we have witnessed juviniles from this year two weeks ago at the same site.

wow!!! fantastic experience dave well done. something i doubt i'll ever get to see. was she out in the open? did you manage to get any head shots...imagine being able to id adults in twenty years time that you actually witnessed being born!

As Tim says, fantastic Dave - well done.  I've spent more decades watching adders than I care to mention, and never seen a birth.  You lucky thing!  I guess although the peak time has passed, there will still be a few late births.

Thanks for the comments everyone.I dont expect to see it happen again soon.Makes upfor so many hours spent without seeing anything at the start of this year.
  The camera I was using was my ancient Nikon d70 that has been round the clock more times than I care to count but does me for these trips.
